John Rodman: Eatery manager gunned down son, co-owner testifies


The manager of a southside restaurant gunned down grill cook John Cornish last October following a heated exchange earlier, the business co-owner testified Tuesday.”I seen a towel (covering a pistol),” Cynthia Cornish, who is the victim’s mother, told jurors. “The next thing I know I heard a shot. After one shot, I heard another.”Michael “Scrappb2” Grant, 52, is on trial in Chatham County Superior Court on charges of criminal attempt to commit murder, aggravated assault and fleeing and eluding in the Oct. 16, 2010, shooting of John Cornish, 34. The victim was shot multiple times and wounded by Grant following an argument at MaRandy’s Restaurant, a family owned business at Skidaway Road and Eisenhower Drive. Cornish survived. Trial is to resume today before Judge Michael Karpf and the jury. It is expected to last at least through Friday.

On cross examination by Assistant Public Defender John Rodman, Cynthia Cornish admitted her son had a temper and was prone to verbal blowups at the business.
